North Tulsa Initiative

In 2021, Green Country Habitat for Humanity announced an ambitious plan to help address the dire need for new affordable housing in North Tulsa’s historically African-American community. Over the next five years, Green Country Habitat will build at least 250 affordable owner-occupied homes in North Tulsa for families with household incomes at or below 80% of the area median income.

Utilizing a network of community-based financial institutions, Green Country Habitat offers eligible homebuyers a below-market, 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage paired with forgivable down payment assistance based on need. As a HUD-approved Homeowner Counseling Agency, Green Country Habitat also provides families access to comprehensive financial and homeowner education programs, providing the necessary knowledge and tools to maintain a home while building equity and household wealth.

In order to complete the North Tulsa Initiative, three philanthropic funders have strategically partnered with us. Ascension St. John Foundation, Charles & Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies, and George Kaiser Family Foundation have collectively committed to support three key components of affordable housing:

  • Forgivable down payment assistance

  • Land acquisition

  • Infrastructure development

We are so appreciative of the support of these organizations, as well as the many individuals who chose to donate their time, talent, and resources to help further housing equity in North Tulsa.
